3D printing in orthodontics is a recent and exciting development in orthodontic care. We are proud to be the first to incorporate this technology in the Capital District region.
3D printers are able to take your digitally scanned files and fabricate physical identical models of your teeth. With 3D printing, our office can make retainers without the need to take an alginate impression. What is even better is that 3D printed models rarely break during the fabrication. If you do accidentally lose your retainer, No Worries! We can make a new retainer from your model. If your model is damaged or lost during the process, No Problem! We can just print another one. The power and possibilities of 3D scanning and printing in Orthodontics is endless.
What is the process of making a retainer using a 3D printer?
A 2-3-minute digital scan of your teeth (No alginate/tray and putty impressions!!) That’s IT! We take your scan and use our 3D printer to print an accurate physical model. Then we make your clear retainer
But can this retainer make corrections to my teeth?
Yes! We utilize a state-of-the-art software program that allows us to make minor corrections of your teeth. Our orthodontists can use this software to control one or all your teeth to provide you the best result possible.
What are the benefits of 3D technology?
No more goop, gagging, or discomfort with the old traditional alginate impression!
- 3D Scans are more accurate and less prone to errors
- Quicker turnaround time
- Precise control to fine-tune the treatment plan for the perfect smile
- Ability to print models over and over again without having to rescan your teeth
